They are located at a short distance from the settlement of upper and lower Saktouria – maximum distance 500 m with walking access – and at a distance of 1 km from the beach of Agios Pavlos
Properties ideal for development, adapted to the morphology, the relief and the historicity of the area – small, with a strong element of stone, adapted to the measure of the old local architectural culture in combination with modern architectural elements.
The area combines a wonderful climate, mild winter with the possibility of sea baths almost all year round and dry summer, while the strong presence of the north winds gives the feeling of coolness and causes awe due to their special intensity.
The element of agricultural exploitation of older years – such as old threshing floors, dry stones, old small buildings (koumi), old buildings – metochia – small picturesque paths is diffused strongly throughout the area. Our intention and philosophy is to preserve them and integrate them into the final, modern result of their utilization proposal.
Property Location Description
Ιn the municipality of Agios Vassilios, 58 km south of Rethymnon, lays the village of Agios Pavlos, which promises a unique experience of relaxation and tranquility. The village is easily accessible by road through the provincial road network of Agia Galini, through the village of Saktouria.
In front of the village, in a closed bay, one discovers the beautiful organized beach of Agios Pavlos, which remains unchanged to this day by the signs of time. The small downhill path that leads to the beach, is said to have been the point where Saint Paul took refuge to rest, during his journey to Rome, hence the name of the village and the beach. Deep blue waters, sand with small pebbles and impressive rock formations and folds, views of the endless Libyan Sea and the islands of Paximadia, offer the ultimate experience of unspoiled nature, away from the noisy reality.
Due to the absence of public transport routes, the beach still remains a well-hidden gem, known only to locals and select travelers. Many people choose it for meditation, due to the calming energy that the area shows, while seminars and wellness events and Yoga are often held there.
A breath away from the main beach, at the western end, is another unknown to many diamonds of the Libyan Sea, the Dunes of Agios Pavlos or Atsalogremni as they are called by the locals. A beach with rare geography caves, imposing dunes that start from the bottom and spring to the surface, beautiful, full of serene energy and romantic mood and famous sunset.
Among these dreamy areas, in the area of Apoplystra, dominate the extremely impressive colorful folds, geological slabs of limestone, which together with the Dunes, have been proposed to be included in the list of world natural monuments.
The small and picturesque village has all the basic services that one can look for, as well as taverns, rooms for rent. Unique architectural churches, such as the Church of St. Paul in the village square, stone houses, flowers and its few but always hospitable inhabitants, make the stay there truly fairytale.
An unprecedented gastronomic experience is offered to the visitors of the settlement, as in the area grow special greens such as «akindinos», wild leek, wild artichoke and mushrooms “Artikites”, mushrooms that always grow at the root of the widespread plant in Crete, Arkitas. which is located in the mountains of the province of Agios Vassilios of Rethymno but also in a part of Amari. All these rare plants of the Cretan land are cooked with special traditional Cretan techniques.
